Ever since Caleb started eating more and more on his own, we’ve been trying to find the best way to keep the table somewhat clean, and so have been trying a few different placemat options. Most recently, we’d been trying those plastic disposable ones that stick onto your table. It was working okay – but we’re never fans of using disposable things when we can avoid (except for diapers…but that’s another post), so we were lucky to have Brinware send us a few of their Silicone Placemats to try out.
We got the green and blue pack, which are really pretty cool. I loved the feel of them, and they actually stuck pretty well to our wood kitchen table. The colors are great, and they have some designs, which I think Caleb will enjoy as he gets older.
We tried them out for the past 4-5 days, and really like them. They’re easy to clean off (just toss in the dishwasher or wipe them down), food stays on them nicely and Caleb seemed to like them.
The only problem we ran into, and the reason that we won’t be using them anymore until Caleb gets a little bit older, is that Caleb liked them so much that he liked to pull them off the table with the food still on them.
Maybe he just liked the texture or feel of them, but he loved to roll them up and then shake them around…which kind of defeats the purpose of a placemat to keep food OFF the table.
So if you’re looking for some great quality reusable placemats, I do highly recommend these. However, we’ll be saving ours for the time when Caleb understands that it’s not helpful to yank out the placemat with all the food on it…that’ll happen…someday…right?
The folks at Brinware were gracious enough to offer a discount code if anyone is interested in purchasing these from their website. You just need to go to Brinware.com and then use the discount code DAD20.
