It’s been awhile since I’ve posted, and I think most of that has to do with how busy our lives have been. Caleb is 11 months old now, continues to grow, to gain more and more curiosity about the world, to get faster and faster with his crawling and steadier and steadier on his feet. He’s been teething recently, which hasn’t been a super fun experience for him, and I can’t say Sarah and I have been loving it either. The part that still baffles me is how changes in one’s teeth affect the quality, smell, color, look and disgust-factor of one’s shit?
Seriously – teething diapers are disgusting. Sarah and I have begun called them pooplosions. It’s not that they’re necessarily blowouts – it’s just an unnecessary amount of poop. And he hasn’t been sleeping as well, which has involved us getting up with him when he’s waking up, much like the old days of multiple night wakings. And which is why I can write a post like this at 4am.
However, one of the benefits to all of this has been such of the special “moments” that both Sarah and I have gotten with Caleb.
There have been a few times when I’ve gone in to put him back to sleep between 11-12am (or at 3am), and after he finishes his bottle, he just kind of tosses it on the ground, squirms a bit, and then….either falls asleep or starts to look up at me with this really sweet/intense gaze. I had this happen about two times last week and once tonight, and it was an amazing moment when we locked eyes on each other and just stared at each other. Sometimes he’ll take his hands and try to rub my beard or just feel my face. And there were even a few other times when he’d be gazing at me for awhile, and then start squirming…but instead of trying to get down, he was turning himself toward me, so that he could snuggle and cuddle a bit.
Caleb is (at this point) really not a cuddler, but for some reason, a few times last week, we’ve had these moments of cuddling. Such a wonderful and precious feeling to have your child just want to rest in your arms. I’m sure this is just a phase he’s going through…but we’re both trying to enjoy it while we can.

How precious! I was up at 2:30am this morning trying to get our teething baby back to sleep, and as I was rocking him he reached up and grabbed my nose and pulled! Not quite as sweet and cuddly. 🙂
