It’s super fun to see Caleb rolling around, rolling across the room and getting more and more mobile.
However, that made us realize…CRAP! We’re going to have to really start thinking about all of this “baby proofing” stuff. Man, I just wish he wouldn’t do stupid things like try and stick his finger in an electrical socket…wouldn’t that just make life easier…?
At any rate – we’ve obviously never done this before. And I feel like if “baby proofing” your home is anything like any OTHER aspect of this whole raising a child…the baby industry will tell us we need this and that, and the this and that stuff tends to add up quickly.
One of the obvious things I’m wondering about is our current TV stand from IKEA. Take a look at that…and I really don’t want Caleb to pull the TV down on top of him. I’d be pissed if he did, because…let’s be honest, I really like that TV. Do any of you have specific tips in regards to TV stands, etc.? I know we could get it wall-mounted, but we’re renting and not sure our landlord would go for that.
Also – what basic tips do you have for how to baby proof your house on a small/limited budget?

We are going through the SAME thing with our son right now. What we have done for our entertainment center is put pillows in front of it, blocking off the receiver, Xbox, PS3 etc so he can’t see them or be tempted. We looked all around for gates and they are just so pricey.
Hope that helps. Best of luck!

We used a big long round body pillow when crawling and pulling up started. It helped block for a bit. We also put the plastic covers on the corners of sharp things like our tv stand and end table when she started standing and staggering around. They didn’t work for us. They are suppose to stick with super sticky tape. Yeah-anytime we bumped them they fell off. Good luck! R.

5% of babyproofing is proecting your baby from getting hurt on corners/stairs/etc.
95% of it is protecting your stuff from the baby. Any object you care about should be put up at least 3 feet from the floor if you don’t want it pulled apart, poked at, puked on, spilled on, knocked over (and a tv like that actually could cause real injury), etc. Once kids are mobile you cant really have “nice” things anywhere they can reach them – candles, books you want to be able to read ever again, projects, etc.
Spend some money on the 5% to keep your baby safe….but the 95% is basically free – just put your stuff out of the way so the destruction cant reach it…I mean so that the baby cant reach it 🙂
