The past week has been a bit of a killer when it comes to trying to get Caleb to sleep…last night I put him down three times (and he was asleep all three times), only to have him wake up again about 10 minutes later. Which is a total. Bummer.
I’ve never been good with remembering the words to songs, especially lullabies, and so it’s been a struggle to figure out what to sing to Caleb to get him to go to sleep. I’ve tried going the “You Are My Sunshine” route, but I really only know the chorus, and you can only sing that so many times.
And then I remembered that there was a song called “Be Still” from The Fray’s newest album. I really enjoy their stuff, and so thought that might be a good one to try and memorize and sing to Caleb. I copied the lyrics below, and you can hear it by clicking on the audio link below. It’s a really beautiful song, one that has to be inspired by Psalm 46:10: “Be still and know that I am God.” A beautiful message that I can sing to Caleb…hopefully letting him know that no matter how frustrated we are with him, we will be there with him…and of course there is also the deeper theological meaning as well…

Be Still
Be still and know that I’m with you
Be still and know that I am here
Be still and know that I’m with you
Be still, be still, and knowWhen darkness comes upon you
And covers you with fear and shame
Be still and know that I’m with you
And I will say your nameIf terror falls upon your bed
And sleep no longer comes
Remember all the words I said
Be still, be still, and knowAnd when you go through the valley
And the shadow comes down from the hill
If morning never comes to be
Be still, be still, be stillIf you forget the way to go
And lose where you came from
If no one is standing beside you
Be still and know I amBe still and know that I’m with you
Be still and know I am

Just heard this song on some random TV show. Bones, maybe? Anyway, I love it. Perfect lullaby.
