Once we had Micah and Judah’s ashes, we then had to figure out what we were going to do with them. We’re not really in a place that is meaningful enough to us at this point in our lives that we’d want to spread their ashes around here, and so we decided to just get some small infant urns to keep their ashes for now. Looking for infant urns is not easy, and there are some horribly gaudy and really cheesy looking ones out there. So I was glad when Sarah found these two laurelwood infant urns from Simple Wood Urn, made in Costa Rica by a family of woodworking craftsmen. Although we didn’t really know what we wanted, in the end, I think these ended up being perfect.
So for the time being, they sit on our dresser. And they tend to catch me off guard sometimes. I was getting out a pair of socks the other day, and I looked up and noticed them. What it did was give me a moment to pause in my day, hold each urn, and remember Micah, and remember Judah.
We’ve also been collecting some StoryPeople prints. I didn’t know about StoryPeople until I met Sarah, and now we have quite a few prints in our home. Our very dear friend Jina sent us a print of the story “Disappearing.” And then Sarah found one called “Wish List.” This is the text for the “Wish List” print (and you can see the print below):
I wish you could have been there for the sun & the rain & the long, hard hills. For the sound of a thousand conversations scattered along the road. For the people laughing & crying & remembering at the end. But, mainly, I wish you could have been there.
And so we surround ourselves with keepsakes, with artwork and with the memories of our two, tiny little twin boys.
