So I just received a note from a friend – albeit, we only know each other through Twitter – and she apologized for clicking on the “Like” button on one of the posts here on Dazed Dad. I hadn’t even noticed, and it wasn’t a big deal, but the whole Facebook lingo can be a bit confusing for a blog that has been so focused on grief and loss in the past month.
I often felt a bit odd clicking the “Like” button on some of these posts, but doing so, I was never really thinking “Yes, I LIKE writing about losing my twin boys” but just knew that it was the Facebook terminology to share this post with more folks on Facebook and get the word out. I’m guessing that is why others clicked on the “Like” button as well. I really do feel it’s important for me personally to write about this experience, and also to help create awareness about infant loss. But I get that clicking “Like” can feel a bit odd.
As I was writing back to this friend, I remembered that the WordPress plugin I use had a setting that would change the word “Like” to “Recommend.” So – for the time being – I’ve made that change. You can now “Recommend” this post to your friends on Facebook. I think that works better for this site, and means that you don’t have to “Like” posts about loss and grief.

Actually, I had the same thought. I was going to “like” your post this morning but couldn’t “like” that. Recommend is so much better of a word.

I wish there was a way to change this name on Facebook itself. I hate saying, “Like this page.” It does feel odd on a grief blog.

Do you remember the name of the plugin? I would like to use this on my blog as well.
