We all have different memories attached to our childhood. Certain foods we loved, songs our parents sang to us when we had a hard time getting to sleep, etc. One thing that I carried with me through childhood was this tape I always listened to called “Sweet Baby Dreams.” This tape is filled with instrumental music composed by Steven Bergman, as well as some instrumental arrangements of Pachelbel’s Canon in D. In addition, there is an audible heartbeat throughout the entirety of the tape, which is meant to “calm expectant mothers, new babies and children.”
I can say that there were still nights that I remember in middle school and high school when I had a hard time falling asleep, that I would get this tape out and listen to it. It certainly is peaceful and very relaxing.
I’ve searched far and wide for a CD version of this tape, but no luck. My mom sent me a new copy of the tape recently, and so my next goal is to find a way to convert this audiotape to a digital form. If anyone has had any luck or experience with making tapes digital, please let me know how you did it. We don’t even have a tape player at all, so I’d need to go out and buy something.
What about you? What music did you find soothing as a child, or what have you found has helped soothe your infant and children?
there are some guided meditation audio “books” that I found on audible by Christiane Kerr that my kids LOVE. They have had the power to calm down my oldest one especially who is highly sensitive and gets migraines when she gets stressed or really excited.
I actually did this for some old tapes nottoo long ago. Are you Mac or PC?
Mac.
When my husband and I were in college we worked for the college radio station and we had the ability to make a tape into a CD using the equipment there. If there is a local college nearby check there. Most likely there will be some bored college student wanting something to do and would be glad to transfer it for you! : )
Thanks for the suggestion Mary. So how did you find out about DazedDad.com?
I followed you on pomomusing (actually I believe my google reader told me I’d like you since I’m in the ministry and a graphic designer/freelance writer!) : ) Then I saw you were expecting and since I just had a new baby boy I thought I’d follow your journey. If you want any insights into a crazy pregnant woman and new mom’s head for upcoming weeks/months you should check out my past blog posts. I was pretty open and honest about the ups and downs of pregnancy! : )
This may be way old; I just found this thread while looking for a replacement copy of Sweet Baby Dreams.
I’m a Mac user. I use Audacity (shareware — free to download on the web) to convert tapes to digital Audacity files. You can use it to then convert the Audacity files to MP3s. to put in iTunes or make a CD.
I have lost my copy of the Bergman tape and also can’t find it online.
I’d love to talk to you about making a copy if I can’t track down Steve Bergman to buy a copy.
Thanks.
I’m looking for a copy of this, tape, cd, it doesn’t matter. Do you know where I can get a copy?
I have the cassette tape, but don’t have any way of making a copy of it…but I found the cassette tape somewhere online last year and ordered it.
